Jodhpur

Wir haben letztendlich 4 Tage in Jodhpur verbracht, eigentlich einen länger als geplant. Einerseits, weil uns die Stadt wirklich gut gefällt, andererseits, da wir am Tag nach unserer Ankunft noch "Hotel-Wechsel-Dich" spielen mussten. Erst hatten wir kein heisses, dann gar kein Wasser mehr. Daraufhin brachte man uns zu einem anderem Hotel in ein wesentlich schlechteres Zimmer als vorher, wofür wir dann aber den selben Preis bezahlen sollten, da wir jetzt ja Wasser hätten. Nun reichte es uns wirklich, wir packten nochmals unsere Sachen und suchten uns ein neues Guesthouse. Danach war schon der halbe Tag vorbei, den wir eigentlich nutzen wollten, um das imposante Fort der Stadt, Mehrangarh,zu besichtigen. Beim zweiten Anlauf regnete es dann den ganzen Tag, woraufhin wir beschlossen, noch einen Tag länger hier zu verweilen.

Trotz dieser Anfangsschwierigkeiten wuchs uns Jodhpur sehr schnell ans Herz. Es trägt zu Recht den Beinamen "die blaue Stadt", zumindest der Stadtteil, der sich innerhalb der alten Stadtmauern befindet. Man kann sich in der Altstadt herrlich in den verwinkelten Gassen verlieren und die blauen Häuser der Stadt bestaunen. Leider ist auch hier der allgegenwärtige Dreck und Abfall schwer zu ignorieren. Dies ist die eine Seite Indiens an die man sich nur schwerlich gewöhnen kann.

Und endlich haben wir es dann auch geschafft, das Fort zu besichtigen,das immer noch den Nachfolgern des Maharaja von Jodhpur gehört. Obwohl der Eintritt nicht gerade billig ist, lohnt es sich auf jeden Fall. Man braucht etliche Stunden, um den inneren Palastkomplex und die weitläufigen Aussenwälle zu erkunden.

On est resté 4 jours à Jodhpur, un de plus que prévu. D'abord parce que nous avons bien aimé la ville mais aussi parce que nous avons perdu beaucoup de temps à changer d'hôtel à notre arrivée... Premièrement, nous n'avions pas d'eau chaude et puis plus d'eau du tout. Le lendemain, On nous a proposé une autre chambre, dans leur autre hôtel, mais la chambre était beaucoup moins bien et ils en voulaient le même prix. On a essayé de négocier le prix justifiant qu'on n'a pas pu prendre de douche la veille, mais ils n'ont rien voulu entendre...
On a fini par partir à la recherche d'une autre guesthouse, en laissant 500 Roupie pour la chambre mais sans payer les 230Rs du diner... Quand on s'est posé, une bonne partie de la journée était perdue. On a remis au lendemain la visite de l'impressionnant fort de la ville mais, comme il a plu toute cette journée, on a décidé de prolonger notre séjour.

Malgré ces petits désagréments, il nous a été très facile d'aimer Jodhpur. La cité bleue porte bien sont nom. C'était très agréable de se perdre dans les ruelles de la vieille ville dont les maisons sont souvent peintes en... bleu... Malheureusement, c'est difficile d'ignorer les tas d'ordures à chaque coin de rue. C'est une des facettes de l'Inde avec laquelle on a le plus de mal.

Finalement, on a visité Mehrangarh, la forteresse de la cité, toujours dirigée par les descendants du Maharaja de Jodhpur. Sa silhouette imposante et les différentes ceintures de fortifications sont visibles de partout dans la ville. Le prix des tickets d'entrée est un peu plus chère que ce qu'on a payé jusqu'a maintenant mais c'était justifié. La visite des palais et des remparts nous ont pris plusieurs heures.

So we stayed four days in Jodhpur, one more than initially planned. For one reason because we really liked the city but also because we lost a lot of time changing hotels the day after our arrival here. First we didn't get any hot water in our room than there wasn't any water at all. They brought us to another hotel owned by the same guy and gave us a room much worse than the first but wanted the same money for it. We tried to negotiate because we hadn't had any chance to take a shower during the first day and night but they didn't want to hear any of it. So we decided to pack our things again and look for a new guesthouse. That took most of the day so that we hadn't enough time left to visit the impressive Fort of Jodhpur, Mehrangarh. We put it on to the next day but then it was raining all day long so we finally decided to extend our stay in the city.

Even after all that trouble in the beginning it's really easy to like Jodhpur. It really deserves its nickname, the "blue city". At least the old part which is within the 16th century border. You can easily lose yourself in the small lanes of the old town and admire the jumble of blue houses. Unfortunately even here it is hard to ignore all the garbage lying in the streets. This is one side of India that we can hardly get used to.

And finally we managed to visit the Fort of the city which is still run by the descendants of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. The entrance is kind of expensive compared to what we paid until now but it is totally worth it. You can spend several hours to discover the inner palace complex and the outer fort walls.
